Product Description
The internal auditing function within the casino gaming industry originated in the early days of gaming as a protection function assigned the task of guarding the daily casino receipts. We have progressed — with guidance from The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), various regulatory bodies, the U.S. Treasury Department, and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) — to become an integral part of daily management of the casino. This updated handbook presents a brief background of internal auditing within the casino gaming industry. It presents practices for working more efficiently with regulators as well as external auditors. It discusses the unique aspects of auditing the casino floor, specifically the casino cage, table games, and slot operations, along with all of the new technology in these departments. The handbook also discusses the auditing of the currency transaction reporting process, which touches many aspects of casino floor activity. For each of these areas, it takes the reader through the details of the audit — from planning to execution, report issuance, and follow-up. It also discusses some potentially high-risk areas within these audits and provides suggestions on audit steps. The primary purpose of this handbook is to provide you with an example audit methodology. It is structured to be a guideline and should be read in conjunction with the casino internal controls, the regulations that guide your casino operations, and the software manuals that are provided by the vendor. Additionally, example work programs should be referenced to help guide your audit. Since each casino operation is unique, based on many factors that include types of systems utilized, regulation, and management structure, the guidelines in this book should be modified and expanded to suit each specific operation. Many of the examples and explanations are generalized and will require specific modifications in order to tailor your audit steps to your individual operation.
